The Taliah Waajid World Natural Health & Beauty Expo Recap
It was such a blessing to participate in the first World Natural Hair Show in NYC on July 19 & 20th. It felt like a family reunion getting to see my long time friends, colleagues, & business associates. I enjoyed catching up with everyone on the Jane Carter solutions styling team as we showcased our skills & expertise of natural styling and loc artistry using Jane Carter Solutions products.

The amazing Thando Kafele @thekingofloc Locks N Chops Natural Hair Salon in NYC www.thandokafele.com Thando has been a great inspiration to me as an expert in his craft and setting the standard for impeccably clean parts on locks and height defying styles on every type of locks, not to mention his dedication to the natural hair community & Jane Carter solutions. It is always a pleasure to work with Thando since our first project together in 2008. Simeko Watkins-Hartley of Meko, New York Natural Hair Care Spa & Boutique www.mekonewyork.com This was my first time working with Simeko and I have to say she is classy, very professional and she added the perfect element to the Jane Carter styling team! She really knows her stuff and she has some amazing techniques for styling long natural hair in soft coifed braided updos with ease. She is known for her Kinky Twist Crochet Weave that offers a great protective style for summer with 2 styles in one! Simeko is just gorgeous, she has a beautiful spirit, dedicated mother & salon owner, it was truly inspiring to work with her! Simeko is making it possible, when otherwise impossible for struggling teens to rise above and accomplish their dreams & higher education, CHECK IT OUT! www.borntobeanaturalleader.comSo Kafele, Simeko and myself began our weekend in Time Square at the World Natural Expo at Jane Carter Solutions booth where women of all natural textured were going crazy over half priced products!! We were bagging up products & answering all the questions about hair care needs and custom natural hair product prescriptions. We had to sneak away from the busting show to our hotel room upstairs in the Marriott where we began to style our models. Jane Carter Professional Hair Style VIDEO TUTORIALS (coming soon!) We each had one style to showcase for the very first Jane Carter Solutions hair styling tutorial video series. The film crew & make up artist were all the way from London, their expertise just made us look even better on camera. We had only one chance to make this video POP & hopefully we captured it. So look out for our latest styling videos soon at www.janecartersolution.com Filming a video tutorial is not as easy as it looks! We were totally exhausted & sweaty under the lights after hours of filming. What made the whole experience successful was the kindness of the team, friendships created, and of course Jane Carter herself. Jane is one of the most down to earth and stress free business women I have ever met. Jane has a way of bringing the right people together to create a family loving atmosphere. Jane always makes me feel loved & I call her my “hair mommy”. Lol Sunday at the hair show was my day to shine. I was styling natural hair left & right, there were so many beautiful heads of natural hair with not a lace front in the house! I started with a cute Janelle Monae inspired look on Locs with purple tips & a bow inspired accent. The Natural Twist Out Foam is one of my favorite new products for styling Locs into sculpted updos. Also the Creamy Leave in Styling Smoother works awesome when mixed with water in a spray bottle for easy detangling on natural hair.
